OSRS Money Making Guide: 15 Methods Ranked by Net GP/hr
By Liam17 min readUpdated 04 Oct 2026Published 27 Jun 2019
Rewritten 4 October 2026: every GP/hr figure was recalculated from Grand Exchange prices as of 4 October 2026 (7-day median), net of supplies and the 2% GE tax. We also changed the method list: Vorkath and runite bars were added and oathplate smithing was removed. Our AI editor computed the figures from OSRS Wiki rates and Grand Exchange prices.
The best-paying method in this guide is the Doom of Mokhaiotl (Delve 1-16), at about 12.7M GP/hr net. Outside raids and end-game bosses, Vorkath (4.06M), smelting runite bars (2.19M) and making mahogany planks (1.93M) pay the most per active hour. Runite bars and mahogany planks hit a GE buy limit if you buy all inputs, which caps them at about 962K and 1.25M per clock hour. Of the free-to-play methods here, tanning cowhide pays the most, at about 319K.
Every figure on this page is our own calculation, priced on 4 October 2026. "Net GP/hr" means what one hour of play is worth after you pay for supplies and fees and after the 2% Grand Exchange tax on what you sell. Prices are the 7-day GE median ending 4 October 2026. Rates come from the OSRS Wiki money making guides. Prices move daily, so read each figure as a snapshot for that date.
All 15 methods compared (net GP/hr, 4 October 2026)
"Typical" uses the main rate on each method's OSRS Wiki guide. The range shows a weaker and a stronger setup where one is documented. Methods with one setup show a single modelled scenario. For three trading methods the range instead shows the result if you buy and sell instantly versus with patient offers. The buy-limit cap applies when you buy every input on the GE: it is the net per clock hour, averaged over the 4-hour buy-limit window.

The main item is the one named under "What moves the number" in each section.
Low-level methods
These methods need few or no stats. Most of them need starting coins instead, because you buy items, change them, and sell them again.
Tanning cowhide (F2P)
Requirements:
none. The method works in free-to-play. Start with about 400K coins.
Our net figure:
about 319K GP/hr at 3,500 hides per hour, which assumes you restore run energy with energy potions. Without them, expect about 2,000 hides per hour, which is about 182K GP/hr. The cowhide buy limit allows 3,250 hides per hour over a 4-hour window, so the cap is about 296K GP/hr.
What you do: buy cowhides, take them to Ellis the tanner in Al Kharid, tan them into leather, and sell the leather.
What moves the number: the profit is a small gap between the hide price and the leather price. A 10% fall in the leather price would cut the typical hour to about 241K.
Tip: buy hides with patient offers. At patient prices the typical hour is about 358K. At instant prices it is about 297K.
Cutting yew logs
Requirements:
Woodcutting 60. The free-to-play figures assume a rune axe.
Our net figure:
about 127K GP/hr in F2P at 150 logs per hour. At the low end of 100 logs per hour, that is about 84.5K. Members with a dragon axe and Forestry events reach about 210 logs per hour and about 412K GP/hr.
What you do: chop yew trees and sell the logs, and join Forestry events for anima-infused bark.
What moves the number: most of the value is the bark, not the logs. At the typical F2P rate, bark is 88% of what you earn.
Tip: chop where other players are doing Forestry events, because the events are where the bark comes from.
Cleaning grimy herbs
Requirements:
the Herblore level of the herb and the Druidic Ritual quest. At our prices the best herb is cadantine, which needs Herblore 65.
Our net figure:
about 503K GP/hr for cadantine at 5,000 herbs per active hour. That is about 100 GP per herb after tax. The grimy cadantine buy limit allows 2,750 herbs per hour over a 4-hour window, so the cap is about 276K GP/hr. At a lower level, irit (Herblore 40) gives about 443K per active hour.
What you do: buy grimy herbs, clean them, and sell the clean herbs.
What moves the number: the margin is thin. A 10% fall in the clean cadantine price would turn the hour into a loss of about 608K. On our prices, huasca loses money.
Tip: check both the grimy and the clean price before every batch. The best herb changes as prices move.
Buying Relicym's balm
Requirements:
Zogre Flesh Eaters. Start with about 900K coins.
Our net figure:
about 1.13M GP/hr at 2,500 potions per hour. The shop price rises as his stock runs down, so we use an average buy price of 394 coins. If you sell instantly the hour is about 922K. With patient offers it is about 1.34M.
What you do: buy Relicym's balm from Uglug Nar in Jiggig, hop worlds as his stock runs down, and sell the potions on the GE.
What moves the number: the sale price. A 10% fall in the balm price would cut the hour to about 914K. Your 2,500 potions per hour are about a fifth of the 11,423 balms that trade on an average day, so a large stock can sell slowly.
Tip: sell in smaller batches over the day rather than one large offer.
Creating crystal keys
Requirements:
no stats or quests. Plan on 100M+ coins of starting capital.
Our net figure:
about 1.17M GP/hr at 5,000 keys per active hour. That is only about 234 GP of profit on a key that sells for about 20,000. This figure is very price-sensitive. If you buy the halves and sell the keys at instant prices, the same hour is a loss of about 115K. With patient offers it is about 2.91M.
Buy-limit cap:
each half has a buy limit of 11,000 per 4 hours. That allows 2,750 keys per hour, so over a 4-hour window the cap is about 644K GP/hr. That rate also ignores how many key halves really trade each day.
What you do: buy loop halves and tooth halves of the key on the GE, combine them into crystal keys, and sell the keys.
What moves the number: a 10% fall in the crystal key price would turn the hour into a loss of about 8.74M.
Tip: check the live spread on all three items before you buy. Never assume the margin from an earlier day still exists.
Making mahogany planks
Requirements:
none for the fastest route. The typical route at the Woodcutting Guild needs Woodcutting 60. The Auburnvale sawmill route needs Children of the Sun.
Our net figure:
about 1.93M GP/hr at the Woodcutting Guild (4,238 planks per hour). The Auburnvale route gives about 1.33M. The fastest route, with a plank sack, log basket and ring of the elements, reaches 6,900 planks per hour and about 3.22M GP/hr.
Buy-limit cap:
the mahogany log buy limit allows 2,750 planks per hour over a 4-hour window. If you buy all your logs on the GE, the cap is about 1.25M GP/hr at the Woodcutting Guild rate.
What you do: buy mahogany logs, pay a sawmill 1,500 coins per log to turn them into planks, and sell the planks.
What moves the number: the plank price. A 10% fall in the plank price would cut the typical hour to about 1.04M.
Tip: the buy limit binds before your speed does. A faster route only helps until you run out of logs for that 4-hour window.
Mid-level methods
Giant Mole
Requirements:
the Falador Hard Diary, so the Falador shield can locate the mole. The typical setup uses Dharok's equipment.
Our net figure:
about 887K GP/hr at 50 kills per hour. Diary perks raise kills from 20 to 50 per hour. At 20 kills per hour it is about 262K. A Twisted bow with a cannon reaches 85 kills per hour and about 1.38M.
What you do: kill the Giant Mole under Falador Park and sell the mole skins and claws.
What moves the number: mole skins are 52% of the value and mole claws 28%. A 10% fall in the skin price would cut the typical hour to about 834K. The mole can kill a Dharok's setup, so keep Protect from Melee on.
Tip: get the Falador Hard Diary first. It is the difference between 262K and 887K.
Smelting runite bars (Blast Furnace)
Requirements:
Smithing 85 and The Giant Dwarf started. Bring a coal bag, ice gloves and stamina potions.
Our net figure:
about 2.19M GP/hr at 1,850 bars per hour, the low end of the 1,850 to 2,150 bars possible with moderate attention. At 2,160 bars per hour it is about 2.57M. Without a coal bag, expect up to 1,200 bars per hour, which is about 1.38M. These figures include the furnace fee of 72,000 coins per hour.
Buy-limit cap:
if you buy all ore and coal on the GE, the coal buy limit allows only 812 bars per hour over a 4-hour window. That caps the method at about 962K GP/hr.
What you do: buy runite ore and coal, smelt runite bars at the Blast Furnace, and sell the bars.
What moves the number: the bar price. A 10% fall in the runite bar price would make the typical hour a small loss of about 24K.
Tip: plan your sessions around the coal limit, not your smelting speed.
Brutal black dragons
Requirements:
Slayer 77, Protect from Magic (Prayer 37) and Construction 45 for a house chapel. Recommended: 85+ Ranged and a dragon hunter crossbow or Twisted bow.
Our net figure:
about 1.61M GP/hr at 65 kills per hour with elite void and a dragon hunter crossbow. With 90+ Ranged and a weaker setup, expect about 50 kills per hour, about 1.20M. With max Ranged, Masori and a Twisted bow, expect 80, about 2.02M.
What you do: kill brutal black dragons in the Catacombs of Kourend with Ranged and sell the hides, bones and other drops.
What moves the number: black dragonhide is 26% of the value. A 10% fall in its price would cut the typical hour to about 1.56M. Keep Protect from Magic on at all times.
Tip: do not loot next to a dragon. Its melee hits are dangerous at close range.
Rune dragons
Requirements:
Dragon Slayer II. Recommended: 90+ Hitpoints and 75+ Magic, plus insulated boots and antifire protection.
Our net figure:
about 1.54M GP/hr at 50 kills per hour. With 90+ melee stats and a lower-tier setup, expect about 40 kills, about 1.19M. At maximum efficiency it gives about 70 kills, about 2.25M.
What you do: kill rune dragons in the Lithkren Vault and sell the runite bars and other drops.
What moves the number: runite bars are 34% of the value. A 10% fall in the bar price would cut the typical hour to about 1.48M. Dying is a real risk if you stop paying attention.
Worked example of gross and net: at 50 kills per hour the drops are worth about 1.81M (gross). Supplies cost about 230K and the GE tax is about 35.5K, which leaves about 1.54M net.
Tip: count kills per trip. The typical rate is 10 kills per trip and 5 trips per hour.
High-level methods and bossing
These figures assume no deaths. Most of the value comes from rare drops, so short sessions vary a lot.
Vorkath
Requirements:
Dragon Slayer II. The typical setup uses a dragon hunter lance. Recommended: 90+ Attack and 85+ Defence.
Our net figure:
about 4.06M GP/hr at 30 kills per hour with a dragon hunter lance. With maxed stats and gear, up to 34 kills, about 4.66M. Without a lance (Bandos godsword and toxic blowpipe) it gives 22 kills, about 2.49M.
What you do: kill Vorkath and sell the superior dragon bones, dragon bolts and hides.
What moves the number: superior dragon bones are 26% of the value. A 10% fall in their price would cut the typical hour to about 3.95M. If you die, you pay a fee to reclaim your items.
Tip: food choice changes your supply cost noticeably, so price your food before a long session.
Tombs of Amascut (solo)
Requirements:
Beneath Cursed Sands. Recommended: 95+ Attack, Strength and Hitpoints, 90+ Defence and Ranged, 94+ Magic and 77+ Prayer.
Our net figure:
about 8.37M GP/hr at raid level 545 and 1.7 raids per hour, assuming no deaths and max gear. At raid level 450, expect 1.5 raids per hour and about 5.96M.
What you do: run Tombs of Amascut alone and sell the uniques and other loot.
What moves the number: Tumeken's shadow is 74% of the value. A 10% fall in its price would cut the hour to about 7.70M. Deaths and lower damage lower your chance of a unique.
Tip: start at raid level 450. The level 545 rate needs about 33-minute raids with max gear.
Yama (duo, Contract of Shard Acquisition)
Requirements:
A Kingdom Divided, 99 Magic, 99 Hitpoints, 77+ Prayer, 75+ Defence and Augury. You need a duo partner.
Our net figure:
about 9.07M GP/hr per player at 11 kills per hour with no deaths, with each player buying half the contracts. The contracts are a large cost, so the gross is much higher than the net. A solo Magic method without contracts runs at 10 kills per hour and about 5.85M.
What you do: kill Yama with one partner while using Contracts of Shard Acquisition, and sell the oathplate shards and other loot.
What moves the number: oathplate shards are 90% of the value. A 10% fall in the shard price would cut the hour to about 5.13M. Each failed attempt loses a contract. At instant prices the hour is about 8.52M.
Tip: check the shard price before you buy contracts. This method depends on one item more than any other here.
Theatre of Blood (trio)
Requirements:
Priest in Peril to reach Morytania. Recommended: 95+ Attack, Defence and Hitpoints, 99 Strength and Ranged, 94+ Magic and 77+ Prayer.
Our net figure:
about 9.07M GP/hr at 3 raids per hour, which needs a trio with no deaths, minimal downtime and few mistakes.
What you do: run Theatre of Blood in a team of three and sell the uniques and other loot.
What moves the number: the Scythe of Vitur is 68% of the value. A 10% fall in its price would cut the hour to about 8.39M. Each death lowers the unique chance.
Tip: treat 9.07M as a ceiling for a practiced team. Learner runs will be slower.
Doom of Mokhaiotl (Delve 1-16)
Requirements:
The Final Dawn. Recommended: 90+ Ranged, 70+ Defence, 90+ Hitpoints, 80+ Magic and 77+ Prayer, and a Twisted bow or Scorching bow.
Our net figure:
about 12.7M GP/hr at 2.5 completions per hour, with no deaths. With a Scorching bow, expect closer to 2 per hour, about 10.1M.
What you do: delve the Doom of Mokhaiotl from level 1 to 16 and sell the uniques and other loot.
What moves the number: Avernic treads are 52% of the value. A 10% fall in their price would cut the hour to about 12.0M. Deaths and resets reduce runs per hour.
Tip: the typical rate assumes about 9 minutes for delves 1 to 8 and about 1 minute 30 seconds for each deeper delve. Time your own runs before you plan on this figure.
A note on eternal glories
Charging amulets of glory at the Fountain of Rune can produce an amulet of eternal glory, at a 1 in 25,000 chance per glory. We left it out of the 15. Almost all of its average profit comes from that one rare result, so most players earn far less than the average. It also takes place deep in the Wilderness, where player killers can attack you.
GE buy limits: why some figures have a cap
The inputs that hit a buy limit: key halves, coal, mahogany logs, grimy cadantine and cowhide.
The Grand Exchange limits how many of each item you can buy every 4 hours. For buy-and-convert methods this matters more than your speed. Five methods here hit a limit if you buy every input on the GE:
Crystal keys: 2,750 keys per hour, about 644K net per clock hour.
Smelting runite bars: 812 bars per hour (coal), about 962K.
Mahogany planks: 2,750 planks per hour, about 1.25M.
Cleaning cadantine: 2,750 herbs per hour, about 276K.
Tanning cowhide: 3,250 hides per hour, about 296K.
How we calculated these figures
Prices: the 7-day median Grand Exchange price ending 4 October 2026, 12:48 UTC, from the OSRS Wiki real-time prices data.
Rates and drop tables: each method's OSRS Wiki money making guide, using the kills, actions or trips per hour that the guide states. We did not invent any rate.
Gross: the value of everything you get in one hour.
Net: gross minus supplies and fees, minus the 2% GE tax on items you sell. The tax is capped at 5M per item, and items under 50 GP pay none. Untradeable drops and pets count as zero. Drops valued as a table average, such as the rare drop table, are not taxed.
Per active hour: the main figures assume you play the full hour. The buy-limit cap is the net per clock hour when the buy limit stops you.
Raids and bosses: figures are average values over many kills, assume no deaths, and use the group size each method is built for.
Who did this: an AI editor computed the figures and wrote this guide from the sources above.
These figures are a snapshot. Prices change daily, and rare-drop methods swing the most.
From Probemas (store): Probemas sells OSRS gold and in-game items. This is a paid service and is not part of the in-game methods above.
