The Ironman mode was a playstyle adopted by some players that wished to become entirely self-sustaining in the game. Some also felt that things are too easy for them with the Grand Exchange and any kind of help from other players meaning you also can't buy RuneScape gold.
The only interactions Ironmen have with other players are having a conversation and combat. You cannot trade, you cannot pick up items dropped by/to other players and you definitely cannot use the GE.
As you can see already, Ironman mode is not for the faint of heart. However, if you chose to give this interesting and challenging game mode a go, there are some things you should know about money-making.
OSRS Ironman Guide For Beginners
Ironman is a challenging mode, to begin with, and don’t even get us started on Hardcore Ironman and Ultimate Ironman. Despite which difficulty you choose, one rule applies at all times – you want to get experience any way you can. This is why questing becomes an essential part of every Ironman’s life.
Do any and every quest available to you, especially the easy ones with no requirements. Some quests will also reward you OSRS gold and it’s hard to make some when the GE is off-limits.
Getting into good shape is very important as well. You will need to train your Agility quite a bit. Nearly all teleporting options will be unavailable to you at the beginning of the game, therefore you will be using your legs a lot.
Higher Agility level will not only allow you to run for longer but you will also be able to use the many shortcuts scattered across RuneScape. While we are on the subject, it is recommended to acquire the Graceful set as soon as possible.
Magic is another skill you want to focus on. Not only will it allow you to use various teleports, fight monsters safely, but it will also allow you to use High Alchemy thus eliminating the need to sell a lot of items to stingy shopkeepers and rather become the gold minting machine yourself.
High Alchemy is unlocked at level 55 Magic and, want it or not, you will be using it regularly.

Ways To Earn OSRS Gold In Ironman Mode For Beginners
Stronghold of Security
Stronghold of Security is a popular method to acquire some starting funds on any fresh account, whether Ironman or organic man. All you need to do is head to the Barbarian Village and then jump down the hole in the center. Open one door after another and answer the questions. Each correctly answered question will get you closer and closer to your monetary reward. The upside of the Stronghold of Security is that it is rather easy to complete. The downside is that it is not entirely safe. There are monsters around, so bring food. Downside No. 2 is that it is a single-use money making method, as the Stronghold of Security can only be completed once. Don’t get lost!
Crafting is a useful skill for an Ironman. There are two ways you can go about money making via Crafting in your early career.
You can choose to craft Tiaras and Unstrung symbols if you are willing to risk your life in the Wilderness or make Gold Necklaces and Gold Amulets and don‘t put your life on the line.
In the first case, you can sell the Tiaras and Symbols you have crafted to the Bandit Store in the Wilderness as each of them go for 120 gold. This will require a lot of Silver and Gold. In the second case, you will simply need tons of Gold ore and craft Gold Necklaces and Gold Amulets.
These can then be sold to Grum at Grum‘s Gold Exchange in Port Sarim. Whichever method you choose, you will get the Moulds for these items in Al Kharid and it is also a good place to smelt raw ores and craft jewelry since there is a furnace and a bank nearby.
Playing Ironman without a bond is suicide and this money-making method will bring you more gold if you train your Crafting skill to level 40 and mine Gold ore there.
F2P players will have to run to the bank in Falador, but it‘s better than having to hop worlds, compete for ores, and eventually get disconnected.
Ways To Make OSRS Gold In Ironman Mode For Mid-Level Players
OSRS High Alchemy – Ecumenical Keys
Ecumenical Keys can be found in the God Wars Dungeon. It is recommended to have level 60 in Agility, Strength, and level 55 in Magic since you will need High Alchemy spell.
God Wars Dungeon is a dangerous zone: caution is advised. Once there, you will need to safe spot Imps with Mage or Ranged combat. The Imps drop the Ecumenical Keys.
These keys can be turned into a handsome amount of gold via High Alchemy. Beware of PKers and DO NOT use High Alchemy on Ecumenical Keys while in the Wilderness.
If killed, your progress will not only be reset but you will also lose all that precious gold, while Ecumenical Keys in their original form can be saved on death. Only three at a time can be carried, so teleport away whenever you have that many, turn them into gold, and repeat.
Don’t get fooled, this method does not involve gambling in any way. You will instead need to use your Thieving skills (65 minimum, 80 recommended) while also having completed Rogue Trader minigame, Rogue Equipment, and The Feud quest.
If you do not shrug from shadier ways of amassing wealth, go to Pollnivneach and knock out some Menaphite Thugs. Once they are down, pickpocket them.
Ways To Get OSRS Gold In Ironman Mode For High-Level Players
Vorkath is one of the most popular bosses due to the fact that it can be soloed with enough preparation and drops good loot. You will need high Combat stats (well into your 80’s) and complete the Dragon Slayer 2 quest. The best part about Vorkath is that it is instanced content so you will not need to contend with other players. Note that Vorkath at the end of the Dragon Slayer 2 quest and Vorkath you will be farming after the quest’s completion are two different things. The second one is a lot stronger than the first, so prepare accordingly.
Killing Rune Dragons
Killing Rune Dragons is a good alternative to Vorkath if you do not feel up to the challenge. This money making method was already covered in our OSRS Money Making - Ten methods to make RS Money in 2019 blog post, so make sure to check it out! The requirements for this method are the same as for Vorkath.
Crafting Blood Runes
OSRS is not only about combat – there are alternatives for the more pacifistic player. Crafting Blood Runes is one of such alternatives.
This money-making method requires level 77 Runecrafting and level 75 Agility. Yes, training Runecraft is a tedious process, but rewards are as good as training the skill is monotonous.
Grab the best Pickaxe available to you and a Chisel and go mine Dense Essence. Use Dense Essence on the Dark Altar to turn them into Dark Essence Blocks. Then use a Chisel to make Dark Essence Fragments.
The Dark Essence Fragments can then be used to make Blood Runes on the Blood Altar. Blood Runes can then be used or sold to Ali Morrisane for 200 gold coins per piece. Not only a good money making method for an Ironman this will also get you a decent amount of Runecrafting XP.
Final Thoughts About OSRS Ironman
To summarize, creating an Ironman account and playing as one can shine new light on OSRS and make you discover new things about the game you have thought to know as well as the palm of your hand.
Not an Ironman?
You can make one with a fresh account in Tutorial Island, just before you talk to Terrova, the Magic instructor.
Left the island without talking to the brave Ironmen there?
Might as well make a specialized account and we can help you with that with OSRS gold, so you can focus on the fun activities instead of farming gold.
